'C' Division, Roda Golf Resort - 21st
March 2008
The penultimate league matches for the “C”
Division were played on a course that was in pristine
condition, for which the staff should be congratulated
and weather conditions that were perfect for golf,
the rain from the previous day had gone but made
the grass emerald green.
There were a lot of anxious Captains who were
aware of the importance of the days battles and
the desire to lift the trophy at the Gala Dinner
Dance on 31st May.
Eurogolf were taking on newcomers to League matches
and they couldn’t be blamed for looking
to extend there lead, but Rocajuna and captain
had other ideas and with five players scoring
in excess of 30 points meant they came out on
top winning 3 – 1.
A weakened Terra Mitica’s efforts against
lowly Los Amigos needed super human efforts to
take over top spot again, but it was not to be
a slumped to a a 3 – 1 defeat.
Ibero Alemanischer, struggled to field a full
team of registered players, although they had
a full squad of players three were not registered
with the League and therefore the scores did not
count, and Alamo ran out 4 – 0 winners.
Third place Deutscher Golf Club needed a convincing
result to make some headway on the leaders but
fell shout by managing a 2 – 2 draw and
missed out on the bonus points by just five points.
The results of the matches:
Los Amigos G S 3 (231 points) vs Terra Mitica
G S 1 (142 points)
Los Cabelleros G S 2 (220 points) vs Deutscher
G C 2 (216 points)
Alamo G S 4 (241 points) vs Ibero Alemanischer
G C 0 (96 points)
Eurogolf G S 1 (240 points) vs Rocajuna G S 3
(249 points)
Bonus points went to: Los Amigos G S, Los Cabelleros
G S, Alamo G S and Rocajuna G S.
The best individual scores of the day went to:
Terry Lewis (Eurogolf G S) 39 points, Thomas Meehan
(Rocajuna G S) 38 points, Tim Linington &
Frank Knighton (Alamo G S), Kevin Fitzpatrick
(Rocajuna G S) 36 points, Bill Martin (Eurogolf)
35 points.
So competitive and fair is the scoring system,
which maximises team effort, the bottom four teams
all secured the bonus points. Alamo’s win
moves them up to second spot just 2 points behind
leaders Eurogolf, and three points ahead of now
in third spot Terra Mitica.
Just as in the higher Divisions, no script writer
could have written such a nail biting climax to
the last matches and guess what Eurogolf have
to play Terra Mitica, with Alamo pitting their
golfing prowess against Deutscher Golf Club.
With the top four sides in a battle for points,
the victors, whoever they maybe, could take the
title. Not one of them can afford a slip up if
they want the top prize.
The next “C” Division League game
will be at Alicante Golf on 18th April 2008 two
tee start 09:03
This is so exciting that the last game of the
season at Alicante Golf my money is staying in
my pocket as I would not put a bet on who is going
to win this title race
Go on Fat Lady, belt out the cantatas and drown
out the nervous yells and knocking knees.
