Vega Baja Premier Golf League - C Division Reports

El Plantio Golf Club - 15th February 2008

Again we were a little cautious as the weather forecast for this “C” Division game was not that favourable, but somebody up there likes us, as it turned out to be a pefect day for golf, and the course is looking better by the week.

Prior to this game Terra Mitica were holding a mere one point lead at the top of the table with Eurogolf Golf Society and Alamo Golf Society breathing hot air down their necks, and the two German sides Deutscher Golf Club and Ibero Alemanischer Golf Club just witing in the wings for those teams to slip up.

To make matters more interesting Eurogolf were taking on Alamo, who had one of their stronger players Lee Harrington struggling with the dreaded Flu’ This match must have been one of the highest scoring games in the three divisions as it amassed at total, of 460 points with Eurogolf securing the better share by twelve points, but as has been said before any side that can average 29 or more points will always be there or thereabouts.

In this case Eurogolf had 29.5, while Alamo had 28, and had poor Lee Harringtron suffering from the Flu’. Then things could have been a lot closer.

Newcomers Rocajuna are proving to be a side to be reckoned with, they were polaying a seasoned Los Amigos side and took them to the cleaners beating them by a resounding 237 points – top scorers of the day - to 196 points again as we keep repeating ourselves the average is what counts in Rocajuna’s case it was 29.6. They were denied a whitewash by husband and wife team of Los Amigos, Brian and Gloria Cooper.

Top of the table Terra Mitica must have thought going into their games against Los Caballeros Golf Society, who were down at the basement, that this could be a way of stretching the lead. But in this game of golf you have to concentrate and not expect too much. Now I am not saying they did But ……they could only manage a 2 – 2 draw and even lost the bonus points, to a team that needs the points to climb off the lower reaches.

Now we come to the battle of the Titian’s, the two German teams each one wanting to prove a point, and that is just what they did – both of them. With each side scoring exactly the same numbers of points. A very unusual feat.

Ibero Alemanischer had a very attractive weapon in their side, Maria Krammer, not only attractive but an accomplished golfer too, playing off a handicap of 9 and scoring 35 points. But not to be outdone Deutscher had Peter Kautz playing off 10 who came in with 37 points.

The bonus points were shared at one point each. So honours were equal all round. Proving yet again that the format played in this League is as fair and exciting as it can be.

The results of the matches:

Eurogolf G C 3 (236 points) vs Alamo G S 1 (224 points)
Rocajuna G S 1 (237 points) vs Los Amigos G S 1 (196 points)
Terra Mitica G S 2 (207 points) vs Los Cabelleros G S 2 (221 points)
Deutscher G C 2 (213 points) vs Ibero Alemanischer G C 2 (213 points)

The best individual scores of the day went to:

John Fordham (Rocajuna G S) 39 points, Peter Kautz (Deutscher G C), 27 points, Gary Moffatt (Alamo G S) 36 points, Barry Brown and Ian Carter (Terra Mitica G S), Maria Krammer (Ibero Alemanischer G C) 35 points, Chris Dooney (Los Caballeros G S) Jens Voss, Ulrich Brack (Deutscher G C) 34 points.

John Fordham Rocajuna G S) is a consistent scorer as last time out he scored 36 points as is Peter Kautz of Deutscher G C who scored 35 points, in January.

42% that’s 27 of the 64 players scored 30 or more points. Well done that’s good golf

The bonus points went to, Deutscher G C,(1 point) Ibero Alemanischer G C (1 point), Eurogolf G S, and Rocajuna G S.

So at the end of the matches Eurogolf take over top spot and open a gap between themselves and Terra Mitica by five points. Rocajuna despite playing eight matches less than anyone else are off the bottom swapping places with Los Caballeros. But the most amazing thing is not only did the two German Clubs share everything on the day, they now have equal everything in the League table.

The next “C” Division League game will be at Roda on 21st March 2008 two tee start 10:00

This is so exciting that the last game of the season at Alicante Golf sees Eurogolf against Terra Mitica – Can’t wait!

But there’s still next months games to be settled and the Fat Lady is still doing her bit.

The fixtures for the “C” Division in March are:

Two tee start.

10:00 Los Amigoa G S Vs Terra Mitica G S
10:32 Los Cabelleros G S Vs Deutscher G S
10:00 Alamo G S Vs Ibero Alemanischer G S
10:32 Eurogolf G C Vs Rocajuna G C
