Roda Golf & Beach Resort - 7th March
2008
This was the penultimate game of the season and
at the end of the day, it ensured a nail biting
finale next month at Alicante Golf.
You could not have written the script any better.
But before that on a sunny but breezy day there
were some teams with a lot to prove and La Zenia
and La Siesta did not want this one to be a LA
game as both wanted the points to stay in the
title race and La Siesta who have been pushing
for top spot appeared to falter at the end and
came off the worst against a re-vitalised La Zenia
losing 3-1.
Talking of faltering Benijofar had not so much
faltered as stuttered but got themselves back
on track with competent performance against strugglers
Las Ramblas “A” and won 4-0 eliminating
the three point deficit, Leaders La Manga North
needed to show some strength to maintain top spot
against San Javier and only a win would be sufficient
to hold on as leaders but could only manage a
draw, the first group out Stewart Harris and Mike
Ashton lost their game by just two points, and
had they just been able to score just three points
more they would have still been in prime place
– but as La Manga hiccupped Benijofar now
lead by three points.
You now know what points mean!
My pre-season favourites, Katie Reilly have left
it a little late to flex their muscles but Lunes
doomed to relegation, took the brunt and Katie
Reilly sealed the fate of Lunes by taking maximum
points.
The results of the matches:
La Zenia G S 3 (260 points) vs La Siesta G S 1
(233 points)
La Manga North 2 (240 points) vs San Javier G
S 2 (232 points)
Benijofar G S 4 (276 points) vs Las Ramblas “A”
G S 0 (226 points)
Katie Reilly G S 4 (256 points) vs Lunes G S 0
(218 points)
The best individual scores of the day went to:
Robin Fish (La Manga North), Mike Probert (Benijofar
G S) 38 points, James Woodham (La Zenia G S) Tony
Simmons (Lunes G S) 37 points,
Bonus Points go to: La Zenia G S, La Manga North
G S, Bemijofar G S & Katie Reilly G S
Now that script that couldn’t have been
written, all the top four teams play each other
in the final games La Zenia G S vs Benijofar and
La Manga North vs Katie Reilly. It Seems that
it just between Benijofar and La Manga and its
in there own hands as to who will take the crown,
but there is one thing for certain the fat lady
is still singing and it aint going to be easy.
At the other end it back down to the “B”
Division for Lunes and only a miracle and 15 points
for Las Ramblas against Lunes and San Javier losing
big time, can save Las Ramblas.
This League provides excitement all the way to
the last game, so who will receive the champion’s
trophy at La Perdiz Restaurante on May 31st? We
will have to wait until the last putt and last
game at Alicante Golf on April 4th.
